Where to Request Records

The sheriff says most records requests must be made in person and in writing at its office. Include the requester's name, contact information, and a clear description. Ordinary requests are not accepted by telephone, fax, U.S. mail, or email. Jail booking and accident reports are the stated email exception. If records are not ready, the office says it will provide inspection timing.

The Court Clerk is the place to ask about a District Court case file or docket. Municipal records belong to the city or town court. The County Clerk keeps land and recorded instruments, not criminal warrant case files.

What to Have Ready

For a personal status question, have the full legal name, date of birth, case or citation number, court date, city, and charge or ordinance if known. Ask which court issued the order, whether it is active, whether bond or appearance is required, and how recall will be confirmed.
